Marty Singley, Senior Pastor
Thursday, 08 October 2009 08:02

martysmallHi! My name is Marty Singley and I'm the Senior Pastor here at Tellico Village Community Church. I was born in Boston, but raised in Worcester, Massachusetts. My denominational background is Congregational/United Church of Christ. Currently, I hold dual standing in the U.C.C. and the International Council of Community Churches.

I earned the Master of Divinity degree in 1974 from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. That same year, I was called as pastor of the First Congregational Church in North Attleboro, Massachusetts. It was there that a small but loving group of people taught me about what it means to be a pastor. In fifteen years of ministry at First Congregational, I discovered that love covers a multitude of stupid minister mistakes!

In 1989 I was called to a co-pastorate at Greendale People's Community Church in my hometown of Worcester, Mass. Seven years later, I came to Tellico Village. The opportunity to pastor a relatively new church in a brand new growing community was a challenge I couldn't turn down, and it has turned out to be a true blast!

Thirty-four years of ministry have changed me a lot! I'm not so enamored of scholastic theology as I once was. Today, a simple theology that centers on the life and teachings of Jesus is more than challenging enough to shape and empower my ministry. For me, Christianity is all about being gripped by a grace that leads to loving neighbor as self. Everything else is window-dressing.

If you'd like to learn more about me and my views about faith, life, love and ministry, check out my Blog. Don't be afraid to comment back. I'd love to engage you in conversation!
