Dr. Stephen Prevatte
Steve is the Senior Pastor here at Community Church. Steve enjoys heading up the church's Pastoral Care Ministry, working with the Mission Team, Stephen Ministry, and Sunday School.
Steve seeks to, and equip others to, demonstrate the life changing love of Christ daily to those with whom he meets. A native of Wendell, NC, Steve joined our staff on July 1st, 2016. Previously, he served as the Assistant to the Pastor and Campus Minister at First Presbyterian Church in Greenville, NC.
Steve received his Bachelor degree in Business from Campbell University in 1990, and Master of Divinity from Gardner-Webb University School of Divinity in 1997. In 2005 he earned his Doctor of Ministry degree also from Gardner-Webb. Having served churches in North Carolina and Georgia, Steve and his family are now proud to call Tennessee home. Steve and his wife, Kelli, have two children;
Caleb and Anna Katherine.
Dr. John R. Orr
Pastor of Music and Worship
John Orr was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee where he began singing at an early age in school and church choirs. Beginning in grade school, he was a professional studio vocalist, recording children’s music for various Nashville music publishers.
Dr. Orr studied choral music and percussion at William Jewell College in Liberty, MO where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Music Theory, Composition and Church Music. He received a Master of Music from Southern Seminary in Louisville, KY and the Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting from the University of Alabama with research on the effects of aging on the amateur singing voice.
An active church musician, Orr has also been involved in community music making through experiences such as directing a school of fine arts in Montgomery Alabama to conducting a home-school youth choir in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. As a graduate student at Alabama, Orr served as Assistant Director for the Tuscaloosa Community Singers and created a University Chamber Singers ensemble. He has created Fine Arts concert series at three separate churches and currently directs the concert series at the Community Church in Tellico Village where he has served as Pastor of Music and Worship since 2010. Dr. Orr has written three units of children’s choir curriculum for Celebrating Grace publishing. Dr. Orr is also currently the Artistic Director/Conductor of the Knoxville Choral Society and Knoxville Chamber Chorale.
Rev. Devin Phillips
Pastor of Connections
Rev. Devin Phillips is a Knoxville native and serves as the Associate Pastor of Connections and enjoys connecting guests, members, and volunteers to the church.
After earning his Bachelor degree in Communication at the University of Tennessee, Devin completed his Master of Theology at Dallas Theological Seminary in Dallas, TX. He has served several years in youth ministry and also in college and recovery ministries.
In his downtime, Devin enjoys playing golf, going to the movies and watching UT football. He is married to his wife Lauren, whom he met at seminary. They have two children, twins, James and Mary Haisten.
Rev. Jennifer Rutter
Rev. Jennifer Rutter recently served as the Pastoral Resident at First Baptist Church of Colorado
Springs, CO. She is a Tennessee native and attended Belmont University where she earned a B.S. in
Political Science. When choosing a graduate school, she purposefully selected Duke Divinity because of its ecumenical student body. She has found unique beauty in each denomination and is constantly amazed at how Jesus Christ unifies believers in the midst of differences. Jennifer earned her Masters of Divinity from
Duke Divinity School.
Jennifer was ordained by her home congregation of First Baptist Church of Nashville, TN and her ordination is recognized by the American Baptist Churches of the Rocky Mountain Region (ABCRM). She brings a breadth of experience with her from serving as a Chaplain at a Women’s Prison to mission work from Appalachia
to South Africa.
Jennifer is passionate about faith formation and believes great questions strengthen faith. She loves preaching, teaching, and sharing her love for scripture. Most of all, she’s excited about getting to know Community Church better. In her spare time Jennifer reads, cheers on Duke basketball, and travels.
Rev. Emily Collins
Rev. Emily Collins is a Knoxville native. She grew up as a “minister’s kid”. Emily was ordained by the church she considers her home church, Ball Camp Baptist Church in Knoxville. She is excited to begin fulfilling her own ministry calling in a church so close to her home.
After earning her Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, Tennessee, Emily continued her education at George W. Truett Theological Seminary at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, where she received her Masters of Divinity. During her time in Waco, she served as Assistant Children’s Minister at Meadowbrook Baptist Church.
She has served summer intern positions in New York City, Washington, DC and First Baptist Church, Knoxville. She has participated in mission work at home, in Capetown, South Africa and the Dominican Republic.
In her downtime, you can find her cheering on her favorite sports teams, reading, or watching Friends.
Fred Pogue is a native of East Tennessee, having grown up in Kingston. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Tennessee with a major in Spanish and minor in Speech and Theatre. He served as pianist at Southwest Baptist Church in Kingston for 12 years and completed a 20 year tenure as organist at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Rockwood. Fred has also played keyboards for several Southern Gospel vocal groups.
