Bible Studies
This fall, several Bible study opportunities will begin in September and October. We hope you will consider taking part.
-
First Look (led by Tricia Waldron) offers a welcoming introduction to scripture for individuals who may be new to reading the Bible or who would enjoy revisiting familiar stories with fresh eyes. Topic: Friendship in Scripture. Meeting in Conference room B, Wednesdays from 2:00-3:00 October 8, 15, 22, 29.
-
Disagreeing Gracefully (led by Kelli Prevatte) Join us for a small group study of John Inazu's Learning to Disagree, a thought-provoking book that explores how to have meaningful conversations across differences without sacrificing our values or our relationships. Through practical insights and real-life examples, Inazu challenges us to see others with empathy, and develop understanding in an increasingly divided world. The study meets on Wednesdays at 5:30 PM, September 23-October 28 in Room 1 A/B/C (Sunday School room). Participants are encouraged to purchase the book and read the first chapter before the first session.
-
Visio Divina (led by Pastor Katie) invites participants into a unique and prayerful way of engaging scripture through art. In this practice, participants reflect on a work of art and its connection with a corresponding biblical passage. This study will meet in the Fireside Room at 9:15 a.m. on Tuesdays: September 29, October 13 & 27, November 10 & 24.
-
Men’s Study: Living the Beatitudes in Today’s World, from Matthew 5:3-12 (led by Brian Mulliner) The Beatitudes are not merely eight virtues to admire. They are a portrait of the character God desires to form in every follower of Christ. In a culture that celebrates power, success, independence, and self-promotion, Jesus presents a radically different vision of true strength. Throughout this six-week study, we will discover what it means to become men whose lives reflect the values of God's Kingdom in our homes, workplaces, churches, and communities. This study meets at Victory Bar & Grill in Vonore on Wednesdays from 3:00-4:00, September 23-October 28.
-
Women’s Study: Mind, Body, Spirit, Space (led by Pastor Katie) We will explore what Scripture has to say about caring for our minds, bodies, spirits, and the spaces we inhabit. The study meets Wednesdays from 10:00–11:00 AM, followed by an optional hands-on Lab where we will explore each week's theme in tangible and meaningful ways. Lab activities include October 7 – Drum Circle, October 14 – Gentle Movement, October 21 – Guided Imagery & Mindfulness, and October 28 – Labyrinth Outing & Lunch. No homework or preparation needed.
